LMNGNO Support of the LGCF 2018 Convention
As Joe Baucum is the President of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation's Environmental Consultants Council (ECC) as well as the President of LMNGNO, he served as Master of Ceremonies at the ECC luncheon on Tuesday, April 17 with approximately 75 LGCF members attending. Included in the participants were National Garden Clubs President Nancy Hargroves, LGCF President Lena Bateman, and LGCF President-Elect Linda Finley. According to Joe, he was able to insert several statements and anecdotes regarding LMNGNO into the proceeding.
Gene Cavalier, animal biologist with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, presented a 45-minute talk on "The LDAF Feral Swine Control Program" --- much as he had done for the January 31 General Membership Meeting of LMNGNO. The audience seemed intimately interested in the presentation and some had personally experienced significant crop and profit loss due to the invasion of feral swine. A few of the audience members had never heard of the problem, were shocked at the economic losses fostered by the feral swine, but were relieved to know that state agencies such as LDAF are combating the issue. Altogether, Gene Cavalier came across as an excellent spokesman for his agency and accomplished a major community service with his educational and outreach presentation. Joe believes that LMNGNO should take every opportunity to share environmental knowledge and experience with other organizations, especially those who would not ordinarily own or seek such information.

Four LMNGNO Members Attend Louisiana Garden Club Federation Environmental School
On March 13 and 14, 2018, the Louisiana Garden Club Federation (LGCF) conducted Course II of its Environmental School in Palmetto State Park, Abbeville, Louisiana. The purpose of the school is to produce Environmental Consultants and Master Environmental Consultants who can return to their garden clubs and their respective communities and educate the garden club members and the citizenry on environmental issues. Joe and Cindy Baucum conducted a full (four-course) Environmental School in the Town of Jean Lafitte in 2013 and 2014, and conducted Course I of the current Environmental School in October of 2017. Members of LMNGNO pictured in attendance at the Abbeville Environmental School are (left to right) Carro Gardner (Life Member), Janell Simpson (Life Member and Board Member-Elect), Cindy Baucum (2018 CLMN), and Joe Baucum (President of the LGCF Environmental Consultants Council and President, LMNGNO). Joe Baucum stated that he would like to see more interface between the Master Naturalist Program and other similar associations and activities.
